Description
The Fermion VOC Gas Sensor is an ultra-compact MEMS breakout board designed to detect volatile organic compounds including formaldehyde, toluene, and ethanol across a 1 to 500ppm range. Powered by 3.3V to 5V and outputting an analog voltage, it is ideal for students, makers, and educators building indoor air quality monitors and smart home automation projects.
Broad volatile organic compound detection
Utilising advanced MEMS technology, this sensor provides qualitative detection of harmful VOCs such as formaldehyde, toluene, and ethanol in concentrations from 1 to 500ppm. It features high sensitivity with rapid response and recovery times for responsive air quality monitoring.
Compact and low-power hardware
Measuring only 13 x 13 x 2.5mm and consuming less than 20mA of current, the module fits neatly into portable devices, air purifiers, and compact IoT enclosures. It operates across a 3.3V to 5V supply range and connects via standard 2.54mm pitch header pins.
Durable lifespan and rapid readiness
The sensor is engineered for an operating lifespan of five years or more in air, with an operating temperature range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius. It requires minimal preheating time under standard conditions, with a 24-hour preheat recommended after prolonged storage.
Diverse air quality applications
This breakout is well suited for ambient environmental monitors, smart ventilation controllers, and early fire warning systems that track shifts in airborne VOC concentrations. Note that the sensor provides qualitative output rather than factory-calibrated quantitative ppm readings.
Handling and operating precautions
Remember to remove the protective film before operation and protect the MEMS element from silicone vapours, corrosive gases, water, and freezing. The module is intended for general environmental detection and must not be used in critical personal safety systems.
