Description

The Fermion VL6180X ToF Distance Ranging Sensor is a compact breakout board combining precise short-range Time of Flight measurement with ambient light sensing. It is ideal for makers, students, and educators building smart robotics, gesture controls, and automation projects.

Precise FlightSense distance ranging

Powered by STMicroelectronics FlightSense technology, the sensor uses a 940nm VCSEL invisible laser source to measure distances between 5mm and 100mm, with readings up to 200mm in optimal environments. Measurements are taken independently of target reflectance and offer strong resistance to optical interference.

Dual ranging and light measurement

The module integrates both proximity ranging and an ambient light sensor into a single unit. This allows your microcontroller to capture simultaneous readings for object proximity and ambient lighting levels.

Convenient I2C connection

Operating over standard I2C at address 0x29, the breakout supports a broad supply voltage range of 3.3V to 5V. The straightforward pin layout makes wiring to development boards quick and simple.

Compact and power-efficient design

With dimensions of 19mm by 18mm, this miniature sensor fits neatly into tight project enclosures. It draws under 5mA of operating current and functions across a temperature range of -20°C to 85°C.

Included kit components

Each unit comes with one Fermion VL6180X distance ranging breakout board and a 6-pin 2.54mm single-row male header ready for breadboard prototyping or soldering.
