The Fermion VL53L3CX Time-of-Flight distance ranging breakout uses STMicroelectronics third-generation FlightSense technology to deliver accurate measurements from 25 mm to 3000 mm. Ideal for robotics enthusiasts, makers, and engineering students, it provides multi-target detection and depth understanding for advanced spatial awareness.

Third-generation FlightSense technology

Utilising a 940 nm invisible VCSEL emitter, the sensor delivers reliable distance ranging up to 300 cm across a typical 25-degree field of view.

Multi-target detection with depth understanding

Specialised algorithms and module construction enable the VL53L3CX to detect multiple objects within its field of view under supported conditions.

Smudge compensation and cross-talk immunity

The module features automatic smudge correction and glass cross-talk immunity, maintaining high measurement accuracy even through protective covers.

Compact board layout and electrical specifications

Measuring just 18 x 15 mm, the breakout operates on 3.3V to 5V DC at less than 20 mA, interfacing via I2C at address 0x29 across temperatures from -20°C to 85°C.

Microcontroller compatibility

Due to the memory footprint of the required algorithm files, the board is verified for use with M0 and ESP32 microcontrollers.
