Description
The Fermion NH3 Gas Sensor is a compact, low-power MEMS breakout board designed to detect ammonia gas concentrations from 1 to 300ppm. Operating on 3.3V to 5V with an analog voltage output, it is ideal for students, hobbyists, and developers building environmental monitors, aquaculture tracking devices, and IoT leak detectors.
Qualitative ammonia gas detection
Powered by MEMS technology, this sensor detects ammonia gas across a 1 to 300ppm concentration range with fast response times. It outputs an analog voltage signal with a sensitivity ratio of R0 in air to Rs in 50ppm NH3 of at least 3.
Compact size and low consumption
Measuring just 13 x 13 x 2.5mm and drawing less than 20mA, this module integrates easily into compact IoT enclosures and portable detectors. It runs on standard 3.3V to 5V logic for straightforward compatibility with common microcontrollers.
Long-life continuous monitoring
Rated for a service life of at least 5 years in air, the sensor operates in temperatures from -10°C to 50°C and humidity levels between 15% and 90% RH (non-condensing). If left unused for extended periods, a 24-hour preheat cycle is recommended before taking measurements.
Ideal project applications
Common use cases include cold storage ammonia leak detection, aquaculture safety management, and washroom odour monitoring. This sensor provides qualitative threshold measurements rather than calibrated quantitative data and must not be used in critical personal safety systems.
Handling and operating precautions
Remove the protective film before operation and keep the sensor clear of volatile silicone vapours, alkalis, halogens, and high concentrations of corrosive gases. Protect the board from mechanical impact, freezing, and liquid condensation.
What is included
The kit includes one Fermion MEMS NH3 sensor breakout board and one 2.54mm pitch header pin strip.
