Description

The Fermion MPU-6050 6 DOF Sensor Breakout is a compact motion-tracking module that combines a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer on a single silicon die. It is well suited for students, hobbyists, and makers developing self-balancing robotics, wearable devices, and human-computer interaction projects.

Combined 6-axis inertial measurement

The module integrates a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer to track velocity, orientation, and gravitational forces. It outputs digital motion data in raw format, rotation matrix, quaternion, or Euler angle representations.

Onboard digital motion processing

An integrated Digital Motion Processor (DMP) offloads complex MotionFusion algorithms, sensor synchronisation, and gesture detection from the host microcontroller. Embedded algorithms automatically handle run-time bias calibration without requiring user intervention.

Selectable sensor ranges

The 3-axis gyroscope provides full-scale ranges of ±250, ±500, ±1000, and ±2000 dps with sensitivity up to 131 LSBs/dps. The 3-axis accelerometer offers programmable full-scale ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g.

Auxiliary I2C bus expansion

An auxiliary master I2C bus allows the sensor to interface directly with external magnetometers or other devices. This configuration enables the gathering of full 9-axis sensor data without requiring processing overhead from the main system processor.

Convenient hardware integration

The breakout board includes an onboard low-noise 3.3V regulator and I2C pull-up resistors, supporting operating voltages from 3V to 5V. Measuring just 14 x 21 mm, it connects directly to Arduino processors and is supported by standard libraries such as i2cdevlib for extracting pitch, roll, and yaw.
