Description
The Fermion MEMS Smoke Detection Sensor is an ultra-compact breakout designed for qualitative smoke and ethanol detection across a 10 to 1000ppm range. Drawing under 20mA at 3.3V to 5V, it provides an analog voltage output that connects straightforwardly to Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers. It is well suited for makers, students, and developers creating compact IoT alarms, kitchen safety monitors, and smart ventilation systems.
Ultra-compact 13mm footprint
Measuring just 13 x 13 x 2.5mm, this miniature sensor fits into tight enclosures and embedded systems where conventional smoke detectors cannot.
Low-power analog interface
The module operates from 3.3V to 5V DC and draws less than 20mA, which is 60% lower power than traditional detectors. It outputs a 0 to 5V analog voltage signal, making it simple to read with standard microcontroller ADC pins in battery-powered setups.
Rapid response and recovery
Advanced MEMS technology delivers detection within 15 seconds for quick early warnings of smoke particulates and ethanol. The sensor is rated for over five years of continuous operational lifespan.
Modular multi-gas compatibility
This breakout belongs to a wider family of 11 MEMS gas sensors, including CO, CH4, VOC, NH3, H2S, H2, and NO2. These sensors share interface and power conventions, allowing you to combine modules for broad environmental monitoring.
Handling and operating precautions
Remove the protective film before use, and preheat the module for at least 24 hours if it has been stored unused for extended periods. Keep the sensor away from volatile silicon compounds, corrosive gases, halogens, alkalis, water, and severe vibration. Note that this qualitative sensor is not designed for life-critical safety systems.

The kit includes one Fermion MEMS smoke detection sensor breakout board and one 2.54mm pitch header pin for breadboard or PCB integration.
