Description

The Fermion MEMS Multi-Gas Detector is a compact breakout powered by the MiCS-5524 sensor, engineered to measure carbon monoxide, methane, ethanol, and other hazardous gases. Providing a linear 0-5V analogue output with fast response times, it is well suited for makers, educators, and engineers building environmental safety systems and air quality monitors.

Eight-gas detection capacity

The onboard MiCS-5524 sensor detects eight hazardous gases including carbon monoxide (1-1000ppm), methane (>1000ppm), and ethanol (10-500ppm). It also measures hydrogen (1-1000ppm), ammonia (1-500ppm), hydrogen sulfide (1-1000ppm), propane, and butane across diverse industrial and ambient environments.

Linear analogue output and response

The module outputs a linear 0-5V DC analogue voltage proportional to gas concentration, achieving a response time under 20 seconds. Conversion formulas and sample code are available for fast integration with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and IoT gateways.

Low-power enable control

Running on 5V DC with a baseline consumption of 0.45W, the breakout includes an enable/disable pin that cuts energy use by 40% in continuous monitoring setups. This efficient design is compatible with microcontrollers, PLCs, and standalone telemetry nodes.

Rugged environmental tolerance

Engineered to endure operating temperatures from -30°C to 85°C and relative humidity up to 95%, the sensor provides reliable long-term performance. It delivers a continuous operating lifespan of more than two years even in challenging conditions.

Compact breakout footprint

Measuring just 12x16mm, the board easily fits inside compact control panels, smart enclosures, and multi-sensor arrays. It interfaces via a 3-pin Gravity-compatible connection and comes supplied with a 3-pin header.
