Description

The Fermion MEMS Methane CH4 Gas Detection Sensor is a compact breakout module designed for qualitative detection of methane and combustible gas leaks. Built with advanced micro-electromechanical system technology, it offers low power consumption, minimal heat generation, and swift response recovery. It is an ideal addition for hobbyists, students, and engineers developing environmental monitoring, air quality, and alert systems.

Advanced MEMS sensing technology

Utilising micro-electromechanical system technology, the sensor features an ultra-compact 13 x 13 x 2.5 mm form factor with an operating current below 20 mA at 5 V. It delivers low heat generation, short preheating times, and an expected operational lifespan of five years or more in air.

Qualitative gas leak detection

The module detects CH4 and propane across a 1 to 10000 ppm range, outputting an analog voltage signal with a sensitivity ratio of R0 in air to Rs in 5000 ppm CH4 of at least 2. Note that this module provides qualitative measurements rather than factory-calibrated quantitative readings.

Microcontroller wiring and integration

With its simple 5 V operating voltage and analog voltage output, the sensor connects easily to analog pins on microcontrollers such as the Arduino UNO.

Versatile monitoring applications

The breakout is suited for indoor air quality and automated ventilation systems, industrial leakage detection, environmental methane monitoring, fire alarm triggers, and experimental breath analysis setups.

Important handling precautions

Peel off the protective film before use, and preheat the module for at least 24 hours if it has been stored unused for an extended period. Avoid exposure to silicone vapours, corrosive gases, alkalis, halogens, water condensation, and heavy mechanical shock, and do not deploy this module in critical personal safety systems.
