Description

The Fermion MCP3424 breakout is a low-noise, four-channel 18-bit delta-sigma analogue-to-digital converter designed to bring high-precision analogue measurements to Raspberry Pi and Arduino boards. It is ideal for makers, students, and engineers developing sensitive data logging, instrumentation, and scientific measurement systems.

High-resolution delta-sigma conversion

The module features four differential input channels with selectable 12, 14, 16, or 18-bit resolution. Data sampling rates adjust according to precision, supporting 240 SPS at 12-bit down to 3.75 SPS at full 18-bit accuracy.

Integrated programmable gain amplifier

An on-board PGA offers gain selections of x1, x2, x4, and x8 to amplify weak input signals before conversion. This provides a differential input full scale range from plus-minus 2.048V down to plus-minus 0.512V at x4 gain.

Low-drift reference and self-calibration

A precision 2.048V on-board reference with low 15 PPM per degree Celsius drift ensures dependable baseline accuracy. The chip automatically self-calibrates internal offset and gain on every conversion cycle.

Versatile continuous and one-shot modes

Users can select between continuous sampling or power-saving one-shot conversion. In one-shot mode, the board automatically returns to a low-power standby state drawing just 300nA at 5V.

Compact I2C interface

Operating across 2.7V to 5.5V, the compact 27x16mm breakout communicates via a standard 2.54mm header I2C interface. It is suited for RTDs, thermocouples, strain gauges, weigh scales, and battery fuel gauges.
