Description
The Fermion BMI323 is a compact 6DOF inertial measurement unit combining a 16-bit 3-axis accelerometer and 16-bit 3-axis gyroscope on a tiny 16 x 16 mm breakout board. Designed for wearables, compact controllers, and battery-powered IoT nodes, it delivers high output data rates up to 6400 Hz and low current draw down to 356 uA. It is well suited to makers, students, and engineers needing precise motion sensing in space-constrained embedded designs.
High-rate 6DOF motion sensing
Featuring a Bosch BMI323 sensor, the board combines a 16-bit accelerometer and 16-bit gyroscope with output data rates reaching up to 6400 Hz. Selectable ranges from plus-minus 2 g to plus-minus 16 g and plus-minus 125 degrees per second to plus-minus 2000 degrees per second allow fine-tuning between sensitivity and dynamic range for fast gestures or vibration monitoring.

Hardware motion detection and FIFO buffer
On-chip hardware event detection handles step counting, tap detection, tilt, free-fall, and activity recognition directly on the sensor. A 2048-byte FIFO buffer captures high-rate samples to prevent data loss, while two programmable interrupt pins wake the host microcontroller only when triggered.

Energy-efficient power modes
The module operates at 720 uA under normal conditions and reduces consumption to 356 uA in Low Power mode. With Sleep, Low Power, Normal, and High Performance operating modes, it helps developers balance sampling performance against battery life in portable and wearable electronics.

Compact integration and dual connectivity
Built on a 16 x 16 mm PCB with 11 mm mounting hole spacing, the board fits tight enclosures and custom assemblies. It provides both an SH1.0-5P connector and standard 2.54 mm pin header holes for I2C communication, with selectable 0x69 and 0x68 addresses supported by Arduino and Python libraries.

Broad project versatility
Fast response times and integrated motion detection make this IMU suitable for robot tilt feedback, gesture-based controllers, wearable fitness monitors, and interactive input devices. It interfaces seamlessly with 3.3V development platforms including ESP32, Arduino-compatible boards, and Raspberry Pi.
