Description
The Fermion BNO055 Intelligent 9-axis Sensor is an absolute orientation breakout combining an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer with an on-board 32-bit microcontroller. It delivers pre-calculated orientation data directly to your project, making it ideal for students, hobbyists, and developers building wearable tech, robotics, and gesture-controlled devices.
Integrated on-chip sensor fusion
The module combines a 14-bit triaxial accelerometer, a 16-bit triaxial gyroscope, and a triaxial geomagnetic sensor into a single system-in-package. Its built-in 32-bit microcontroller handles complex algorithm processing directly on the chip, outputting individual sensor readings as well as fused quaternions, Euler angles, and vectors.
Versatile interface and voltage support
Operating across a 3.3V to 5.5V supply range, the breakout communicates over I2C with 5V logic support at a default address of 0x28. It also supports 3.3V SPI communication for alternate microcontroller setups.
Configurable motion sensing modes
The accelerometer provides selectable measurement ranges from ±2g to ±16g with configurable low-pass filter bandwidths down from 1 kHz. The gyroscope features adjustable angular rate ranges from ±125°/s to ±2000°/s and includes motion-triggered interrupt signalling.
High-accuracy magnetic field measurement
The geomagnetic sensor measures magnetic fields across typical ranges of ±1300 uT on the X and Y axes and ±2500 uT on the Z axis with approximately 0.3 uT resolution. It supports multiple power and accuracy modes, including sleep, low power, regular, and enhanced regular operation.
Compact layout and included headers
The board measures 19 x 21 mm with 2 mm mounting holes positioned 16 mm apart for secure installation in compact enclosures. It is supplied with two 2.54 mm single-row 5-pin connector strips for straightforward breadboard prototyping.
