Description
The Environment Science Expansion Board V2.0 for micro:bit is a highly integrated STEAM platform designed to bring classroom science theory into practical everyday experiments. Built in an engaging tree shape, it allows students and educators to gather real-time data across atmospheric, soil, and aquatic environments. It is an ideal tool for schools, science clubs, and hobbyists exploring coding, data logging, and IoT automation.
Comprehensive on-board environmental sensing
The board integrates a suite of ambient sensors including a BME280 sensor for barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity, alongside an ML8511 UV sensor, an ambient light sensor, and an analogue sound sensor. An onboard CCS811 sensor monitors indoor air quality by measuring TVOC from 0 to 1100 ppb and CO2 concentrations from 400 to 8000 ppm.

External soil and water probes
Expand testing to earth and water using the three included external probes. The package features a capacitive soil moisture sensor, a waterproof temperature probe measuring from -55 to 125 degrees Celsius, and a dedicated TDS probe to analyse total dissolved solids in water.
Integrated WiFi and IoT support
A dedicated 2.4GHz WiFi-IoT card provides direct internet connectivity using standard TCP/IP networking. Students can upload live scientific data to leading cloud platforms such as EasyIoT, IFTTT, ThingSpeak, and SIoT, aided by an onboard RGB status indicator.
On-board display and actuators
A 0.96-inch 128x64 blue OLED display enables immediate data visualisation in the field without an external monitor. Interactive feedback is supported by four addressable WS2812 RGB LEDs, an onboard passive buzzer, and a 1-way PWM motor driver compatible with low-power 130 and N20 DC motors.
Versatile power and programming
Designed for classroom convenience, power can be supplied via a 5V micro-USB port or the onboard 3x AAA battery holder. The board breaks out dual I2C channels and multiple micro:bit GPIO pins with 3.3V logic, fully programmable using MakeCode or Mind+.
