Description
The DFRduino Leonardo with Xbee Socket is an ATmega32u4 development board compatible with the Arduino Leonardo and standard Uno R3 pinout. Featuring an integrated wireless socket and dedicated sensor expansion pins, it is ideal for makers, students, and educators building wireless robotics and custom USB input devices.
Native USB-HID communication
Because the ATmega32u4 manages USB connectivity directly, the board operates without a secondary USB interface chip. This direct connection allows the board to emulate USB human interface devices such as a keyboard or mouse.

Integrated wireless module socket
The onboard XBee socket supports standard XBee modules, including 2.4 GHz Zigbee and 900 MHz variants, as well as compatible Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and RF form-factor devices. This enables straightforward wireless control without extra breakout shields.
Direct digital sensor headers
Extended digital pins D14 through D16 feature dedicated 5V power and ground lines. These headers allow you to plug compatible digital sensors and modules directly into the board.
Microcontroller specifications
Running at 16 MHz on 5V logic, the board provides 20 digital I/O pins, 7 PWM channels, and 12 analogue inputs. Memory includes 32 KB flash memory with 4 KB used for the bootloader, 2.5 KB SRAM, and 1 KB EEPROM.
Power and system requirements
Power is supplied via micro USB or an external 7-12V DC input, with an onboard regulator delivering up to 800 mA on the 3.3V rail. Development requires Arduino IDE version 1.0.1 or later.
