Description

The DC-DC Step Down Buck Converter delivers a stable 12V output at up to 12A from a 15V to 24V input range, achieving over 95% efficiency. It is designed for makers, hobbyists, and robotics builders requiring high-current power for motors, servos, LED arrays, and onboard vehicle electronics.

Operating across an input range of 15V to 24V, the module steps voltage down to a regulated 12V with less than 50mV ripple noise. It maintains greater than 95% efficiency under a 24V input with 1A to 12A loads, minimising energy waste.

Microcontroller control and status monitoring

The module includes dedicated EN, AGND, and PGOOD pins for external control. The enable pin interfaces with microcontroller IO via a 1k resistor, while the PGOOD pin outputs 5V during normal operation and 0V during faults or short circuits.

Integrated thermal and short-circuit protection

Onboard safeguards protect connected electronics by automatically shutting down at temperatures exceeding 125°C. Full short-circuit protection prevents hardware damage during abnormal output conditions.

Compact layout with thermal pad

Measuring just 30 x 26 x 8mm, the board features a built-in thermal pad underneath. Soldering the pad to a larger copper ground plane significantly enhances heat dissipation under heavy 12A loads.

Low standby power consumption

Static current draw remains under 3mA when the enable pin is left floating. Grounding the enable pin puts the module into standby mode, reducing consumption to below 3µA.

Robotics and high-load applications

With 12A continuous capacity, this regulator is suited for driving high-torque servos, drone sub-systems, high-power LED lighting, and automotive electronics. It operates reliably in ambient temperatures ranging from -25°C to +70°C.
