Description
This 5-megapixel camera module provides high-definition still photography and video capture for Raspberry Pi development boards. It is well suited to beginners, students, and makers working on computer vision, time-lapse photography, wildlife camera traps, and home automation systems.
High-definition video and still capture
The 5-megapixel sensor captures 2592 x 1944 still images alongside multiple video modes, including 1080p at 30 fps with H.264 encoding, 720p at 60 fps, and 640x480 at up to 90 fps. This versatility makes it practical for smooth motion tracking, slow-motion recording, and time-lapse capture.
Fixed-focus optical specifications
The module features an f/2.8 lens with a 3.57 mm focal length and a 65-degree field of view. Its fixed-focus configuration provides a clear focusing range from 0.69 metres out to infinity.
Flexible programming and API support
The camera operates seamlessly through the MMAL and V4L APIs and works with popular third-party software including the Picamera Python library. This enables rapid script development for custom camera controls, automated capture routines, and graphical effects.
Compact form factor and CSI interface
Weighing roughly 2.8 grams and measuring 25 mm by 25 mm by 10 mm, the board fits easily into tight robotics builds and small enclosures. It connects directly to the host board using the included 15 cm CSI ribbon cable.
Broad Raspberry Pi board compatibility
The camera is compatible with all variants of Raspberry Pi 1, 2, 3, and 4. Note that it is not suitable for use with Raspberry Pi 5.
