Description

The C1001 is a 60GHz millimeter-wave radar sensor designed for indoor human presence sensing, sleep analysis, and fall detection. It provides a privacy-conscious alternative to cameras for makers, students, and engineers developing smart home and assistive care systems using Arduino, ESP32, or micro:bit platforms.

Direct microcontroller integration

Onboard algorithms process radar data internally and output direct detection results without requiring complex signal analysis. The sensor operates over a standard interface compatible with ESP32, micro:bit, and Arduino UNO development boards configured via the Arduino IDE.

Wide-area fall and posture tracking

A point cloud imaging algorithm recognises human postures, detects when a person is lying down, and reports immobility durations. When mounted on a ceiling at a height of 2.7 metres, it maintains motion and static presence detection across an area up to 11 metres.

Non-contact sleep and vital monitoring

In sleep mode, the sensor tracks body movements, chest respiration from 10 to 25 breaths per minute, and heart rates between 60 and 100 beats per minute at distances up to 1.5 metres. These metrics combine to provide a calculated sleep score for overnight rest analysis.

Camera-free privacy compliance

The radar operates entirely without capturing images or video, making it suitable for private spaces such as bathrooms and bedrooms. It reliably distinguishes between motion and static human presence without relying on wearable devices.

Electrical and radar specifications

The module operates at 5V with a current draw of 100mA or less at operating frequencies between 61GHz and 61.5GHz. It offers a 100 by 100 degree radar detection angle and functions across temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.
