6+1 Microphone Array

The 6+1 Microphone Array is a specialised audio expansion board designed for Maix AI development platforms to power acoustic and voice-processing applications. Equipped with seven high-sensitivity digital MEMS microphones and an integrated RGB LED ring, it provides students, hobbyists, and engineers with a powerful platform for sound localisation, beamforming, and speech recognition.

Seven-microphone MEMS array

The board features seven MSM261S4030H0 omnidirectional, bottom-ported silicon microphones arranged in a 6+1 circular pattern. This configuration is built for advanced acoustic processing, including single and multi-source sound localisation, beamforming, noise suppression, and reverb cancellation.

Direct digital I2S interface

Each microphone includes a built-in 24-bit I2S port that routes raw digital audio straight to the main processor without requiring an external codec or ADC. The microphones offer a 57 dB signal-to-noise ratio, -26 dBFS sensitivity, and a high sound pressure level tolerance of 140 dB SPL.

Integrated RGB LED ring

A ring of twelve SK9822 RGB LEDs provides visual feedback with 256 colour levels and 32 brightness steps over a 120-degree viewing angle. The LEDs utilise a two-wire synchronous control interface, allowing dynamic visual tracking of localised sound sources.

Dual connectivity and power specs

Measuring 78.1 mm by 88.8 mm, the module connects via either a 2x5-pin 2.54 mm header or a 10-pin 0.5 mm FPC connector. It operates on a 3.3V DC supply, drawing over 750 mA at full LED brightness, across a temperature range of -30°C to 85°C.
