WTV020 Mini SD Card Audio Playback Sound Module

The WTV020 Mini SD Card Sound Module provides dedicated audio and voice playback from a microSD card for electronics and robotics builds. It offers flexible control options including direct push-button triggers and serial communication, with audio outputs for both speakers and external amplifiers. It is well suited to students, makers, and hobbyists looking to add sound effects or voice prompts to their microcontroller projects.

Audio playback and storage

The module reads FAT-formatted memory cards up to 1 GBit, playing 4-bit ADPCM audio files directly. Audio files can be organised into folders and loaded onto the card without requiring specialised software.

Flexible control options

Playback can be managed via direct push-button triggers, parallel address lines, a two-wire clock and data serial interface, or UART serial control. This allows for both standalone key operation and automated track selection from a microprocessor.

Audio output configurations

The module can drive an 8-ohm speaker directly from its SPK+ and SPK- pins or output a DAC signal via the AUDIO-L pin into an external amplifier.

Power and interfacing notes

Operating on 2.6 V to 3.6 V DC, the digital I/O pins are not 5V tolerant. When connecting to a 5V microcontroller, inline 470-ohm resistors, a voltage divider, or a logic level shifter must be used.
