Description
The VS1003B MP3 Decoder and Encoder Development Board is a versatile audio processing module designed to decode multiple formats including MP3, WMA, WAV, and MIDI, as well as record audio in IMA ADPCM format. Equipped with an onboard microphone, line-in port, headphone output, and SPI communication, it allows simple integration with microcontrollers. It is well suited for students, makers, and hobbyists creating audio players, synthesizers, and sound recording projects.
Versatile audio decoding and encoding
The board supports decoding for MP3, MP3+V, WMA, WAV, MIDI, and SP-MIDI audio streams. It can also encode audio into monaural IMA ADPCM format using either the onboard microphone or the line input.
Integrated audio hardware
It includes an onboard stereo DAC with a 30 Ohm earphone driver, an adjustable 16-step on-chip ADC, a 3.5 mm headphone output jack, a recording microphone, and a line-in interface.
Power management and onboard regulation
The module operates from a single +5 VDC power supply with capacitor filtering and features onboard 3.3 V and 2.5 V 1117 LDO regulators supplying up to 800 mA. It includes a power indicator LED and separate supply rails for analog, digital, and IO circuitry.
Microcontroller interface and clocking
The board connects via a standard SPI serial data and control interface with accessible signal pins. It runs with an onboard 12.288 MHz crystal and an internal PLL clock frequency multiplier.
