Description
The Sharp GP2D12 infrared distance sensor provides reliable non-contact range detection from 10 cm to 80 cm. It outputs a single analogue voltage that corresponds to object distance, making it simple to read using an analogue-to-digital converter or comparator. This economical module is ideal for robotics students, makers, and hobbyists looking for accurate proximity sensing.
Accurate infrared ranging
The sensor measures distances from approximately 10 cm to 80 cm, delivering significantly better performance than standard IR alternatives while remaining more economical than sonar rangefinders. The analogue output voltage varies from 2.4 V down to 0.4 V across its measuring span.
Straightforward microcontroller interfacing
Connecting to development boards is simple using the single analogue output line. It can be read directly via an ADC channel for continuous distance calculations or linked to a comparator circuit for threshold detection.
Compact and lightweight design
Weighing only 4 g and featuring a 3-pin JST connection, this module integrates easily into compact robotics chassis and small maker projects without adding bulk.
