The Keyestudio MQ-5 LPG Gas City gas sensor module is a reliable, low-cost detection solution designed for students, makers, and hobbyists building safety and environmental monitoring projects. It offers high sensitivity to combustible gases like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas, and methane, making it ideal for smart home automation and educational experiments.

Tin dioxide sensing material

The MQ-5 sensor utilises SnO2 (tin dioxide), which has a low electrical conductivity in clean air. When combustible gases are present, the conductivity of the sensor increases in proportion to the gas concentration in the environment.

High sensitivity to combustible gases

This module is highly sensitive to propane, methane, liquefied gas, natural gas, and city gas. It is specifically optimised to detect methane and propane, providing a cost-effective solution for domestic gas leak detection systems.

Anti-alcohol and anti-smoke interference

The sensor shows almost no response to ethanol or smoke. This high resistance to interference prevents false alarms caused by alcohol vapours or common household smoke.

Rapid response and recovery times

With a response time of 10 seconds or less and a recovery time of 30 seconds or less, the sensor quickly reacts to environmental changes. It features a broad detection range of 50 to 10000ppm.

Operating voltage and heating requirements

The module operates on a 5V supply and requires a heating voltage of AC or DC 5V (plus or minus 0.5V). It features a load resistance of 2K ohms and a clean air resistance of 4000K ohms or less.
