APDS-9960 RGB, Proximity and Gesture Sensor Module, 3.3V

The APDS-9960 RGB and Gesture Sensor is a compact breakout module offering ambient light and colour measuring, proximity detection, and touchless gesture sensing. It allows makers, students, and hobbyists to control microcontrollers, computers, and robotics projects with a simple swipe of the hand. Operating at 3.3V, it communicates easily over an I2C bus.

Multi-functional optical sensing

The onboard APDS-9960 sensor features four directional diodes alongside built-in UV and IR blocking filters. It reliably tracks direction, ambient light, colour, and proximity across a detection range of 10 to 20 cm (4 to 8 inches).

Pin connections and communication

The module uses the I2C communication protocol for straightforward data transfer. Pin breakouts include VCC (3.3V power), GND, SDA, SCL, INT (interrupt), and VL for optional IR LED power.
