Description
The Adafruit Fadecandy is a USB-controlled LED driver engineered to produce smooth, expressive lighting effects with built-in dithering and colour correction. Capable of driving up to 512 WS2811 or WS2812 LEDs across eight channels, it connects seamlessly to a computer or Raspberry Pi. It is an ideal platform for multimedia artists, makers, and students building interactive lighting installations.
Smooth dithering and colour correction
The onboard firmware utilises unique dithering and colour correction algorithms to raise the visual quality of addressable LEDs. This allows creators to produce subtle, fine-grained colour gradients and transitions without harsh stepping or distracting flicker.
Multi-strip LED control
A single Fadecandy board supports up to 512 WS2811 or WS2812 LEDs arranged as eight parallel strips of 64 pixels each. Multiple boards can be connected over USB to scale up control for large, complex LED sculptures and displays.
Cross-platform software support
The Fadecandy Server runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and embedded platforms like the Raspberry Pi, communicating via the Open Pixel Control protocol. Ready-to-use libraries and examples are available for development environments such as Python and Processing.
Connection details
The board features through-hole pads for wiring and strip connections. Pin headers are not included and can be soldered to the pads if required for your setup.
