The Adafruit Blue and White 16x2 LCD and Keypad Kit allows you to add a character display and directional input buttons to your Raspberry Pi using only two I2C pins. Minimal GPIO usage with I2C

While standard 16x2 LCDs can require up to seven GPIO pins, this plate controls the screen, backlight, and five keypad buttons using only the standard I2C SDA and SCL pins. Because I2C is a shared bus, other I2C devices such as real-time clocks and sensors can be connected alongside the plate.

Integrated navigation keypad

Five onboard buttons—four directional and one select—provide an easy way to navigate menus and read user input without needing an external keyboard or monitor. Python library support includes automatic button de-bouncing for reliable input handling.

Display and backlight control

The kit includes a high-contrast blue and white monochrome 16x2 character display. Software control allows you to switch the white backlight on or off directly from your code.

Raspberry Pi compatibility and assembly

The plate comes as a kit with a high-quality PCB, buttons, and an extra-tall 26-pin header designed to clear the Raspberry Pi USB and Ethernet ports. Assembly is straightforward with basic soldering and can typically be completed in around 30 minutes.
