Standard 8x8 matrices require 16 pins to control 64 LEDs, which quickly depletes your microcontroller's available I/O. By using the onboard HT16K33 driver chip, these modules communicate over a simple I2C interface, saving valuable pins for other sensors and actuators.

Consistent brightness and dimming

The matrix backpack utilises constant-current drivers to ensure ultra-bright, consistent colour across all 64 red LEDs. It also supports 1/16-step display dimming, allowing you to adjust the brightness programmatically to suit your environment.

Multi-display daisy chaining

Each 1.2-inch matrix backpack features three address-selection jumpers, enabling you to connect up to eight modules together on a single I2C bus. This allows you to mix and match multiple 8x8 matrices or 7-segment displays for larger visual setups.

Designed for easy integration, the modules operate at an input voltage of 5V with a rated input frequency of 400kHz. They draw an input current of 500mA with a power consumption of 2.5W, making them highly compatible with standard Arduino development boards.
