Injini and the Mastercard Foundation are hosting the 5th South African EdTech Week in Johannesburg, showcasing AI marking tools and offline coding games.

Ed-tech accelerator Injini, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, will host the fifth edition of South African EdTech Week on October 12–13 at Focus Rooms in Sandton, Johannesburg. Running under the theme “Reclaiming the Classroom: EdTech as a Tool for Teacher Empowerment,” the two-day event marks the gathering’s first relocation to Gauteng.

A central feature of the programme is a showcase of 10 startups from the fourth cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, managed by Injini. The featured solutions focus on practical classroom utility and accessibility, including AI-powered platforms designed to reduce teacher marking time by up to 80 percent, offline coding games for low-resource environments, and assistive technology for learners with special educational needs.

The event signals a strategic shift away from hardware and connectivity procurement toward reducing teacher workload. As schools integrate digital curricula, the emphasis on offline coding tools and automated assessment reflects an industry-wide recognition that ed-tech sustainability relies on software directly alleviating administrative burdens rather than functioning as an unintegrated add-on.
