MICTSETA 4IR Symposium & IoT Hackathon
At the MICT SETA 4IR symposium and IoT hackathon in May 2026, students built a working smart-farm system on sheenbot hardware and presented it to South Africa's Minister of Higher Education — a laptop, a breadboard and a room of officials.
AWS Future Career Expo
At the AWS Future Career Expo in May 2026 we spent the day with Grade 9 learners facing subject choices — showing them a live sheenIoT dashboard and answering the only question that really matters at that age: what would I actually do all day?
Laerskool Paul Greyling
In May 2026 Laerskool Paul Greyling became our first smart-farm partner school. The training day put teachers — not learners — in front of the laptops, which is the only version of this that survives past the first term.
WCED Growth for Jobs
In March 2026 we joined a Growth for Jobs drone and tech-career awareness day at Du Rust Futura Academy — a school hall, a livestream, a drone on the stage, and a room of learners being shown an industry that is hiring in their own province.
SchoolScape Expo
We launched sheenIoT at Schoolscape The Cape in February 2026 — in front of school leaders comparing eighty-odd solutions in a single day, which is the most honest test a product can get.
WCED STEAM Conference
At the WCED STEAM conference in February 2026 we brought a humanoid robot in front of a South African public audience for the first time — into a room full of teachers, which is exactly where it needed to land first.
AGiBot HQ Visit
In November 2025 Sheen took a delegation of South African business leaders to the Shanghai headquarters of AgiBot — one of the world's highest-volume humanoid robot manufacturers — to see mass-produced humanoids at close range rather than on a screen.
Bellville Preparatory School
In November 2025 we delivered WhalesBot robotics courses at Bellville Preparatory School — a full room of primary learners, a merry-go-round to build, and a reminder that this subject works best long before high school.
Grade 9 STEM Bootcamp Ceres
In November 2025 we drove out to Ceres for a Grade 9 STEM bootcamp with the Western Cape Education Department — reaching learners in the exact year that subject choices quietly decide what they are allowed to become.
SA EdTech Week
South African EdTech Week 2025 ran under the theme "Building EdTech Readiness in Under-Resourced Contexts" — a title that quietly rejects the idea that access alone is the answer. We exhibited, and spent three days being asked the right questions.
TDK Edventures Partnership
In October 2025 Sheen and TDK Edventures signed a partnership agreement to bring a coding and robotics academy to their learners — the first time our academy model was licensed to run somewhere other than our own building.
Forest Village Leadership Academy
Forest Village Leadership Academy became our first partnership school in October 2025. The kits mattered less than what came with them: teacher training, manuals, video tutorials and a group chat where a question at 21:00 gets an answer.
New Office Expansion
Seven months after opening, we had more learners than desks. In October 2025 we expanded the premises — modular hexagonal tables, a shelf of student builds, and a window onto the wetlands.
EdenX Future Ready Festival
In September 2025 we packed the boards into a car and drove to George for the EdenX Future Ready Festival — the first time sheenbot∞ went beyond the Cape Metro, and a reminder of who usually gets left off the exhibition circuit.

In August 2025 we sat down with CPUT to discuss Luban Workshop initiatives — China's vocational-training model, now running in dozens of countries — and what a version of it could mean for skills training in the Western Cape.
Ecosystem Workshop
In August 2025 we joined a workshop convened to explore international collaboration across Cape Town's technology and education ecosystem — the kind of room where the useful outcome is a shorter list of assumptions, not a signed agreement.
iThemba LABS Program
In August 2025 we ran an interactive robotics and drone exhibition at NRF-iThemba LABS in Faure — a particle-accelerator facility whose outreach programme has been bringing school learners face to face with working scientists for years.
National Science Week
National Science Week 2025 ran under the theme "science, technology and innovation are for everyone". We took that literally: a humanoid robot on a low table, learners from Brackenfell High crowded around it, and no rope keeping anyone back.
Winter Holiday Workshop
Our first winter school-holiday camp ran in July 2025. It opened, as every camp since has opened, with a safety checklist — because we had decided that children would be using real tools rather than pretend ones.
Don Podcast
In July 2025 The Don Podcast came to the academy to record an episode on coding and robotics education. Sheen and Astrovos took part — and so did the students, who turned out to be the ones with the most to say.
Techno Buzz Workshop
On 1 July 2025 we delivered the first sheenbot workshop outside our own building — a full computer lab, mixed ages, laser-cut smart houses on the desks, and every problem that comes with running your kit on someone else's machines.
Sans Souci School Excursion
In June 2025 a group of learners from Sans Souci Girls' High School became the first school excursion to visit Sheen Academy — and the first real test of whether our classroom worked for a group that had not chosen to be there.
sheenbot Publish
Two weeks after the academy opened, we published the first sheenbot together with a smart home kit — the moment Sheen stopped being a company that taught with other people's hardware and became one that makes its own.
Academy Opening
On 15 March 2025 Sheen Academy opened in Century City with three class levels, a banner on the lawn and no students yet. Within six months, more than 120 learners were coming through the door every week.
First Public Exposure
On 5 February 2025 — six weeks before Sheen Academy opened its doors — we packed the kits into a car and put them on a table in front of a room full of educators. It was the first time anyone outside the company had touched what we were building.
