A study by Hanover Research reveals that while AI tool usage is rising across K–12 classrooms, schools face significant gaps in training, guidance, and usage policies.

A new research report from Hanover Research reveals that while artificial intelligence adoption is increasingly common among K–12 students and teachers, schools face significant deficits in formal oversight. The study, published in the firm's K–12 AI Integration Trends report, evaluated how classrooms are actively deploying AI tools.

According to the findings, the rapid uptake of AI software has outpaced school administration readiness. Hanover identified major gaps in professional educator training, appropriate-use frameworks, and clear institutional guidance. To address the divide between student usage and administrative oversight, the report includes recommendations to help school district leaders evaluate and manage AI deployments within their systems.

The findings point to an ongoing challenge in global ed-tech governance: classroom adoption of generative and software-based AI often occurs independently at the learner and teacher level well before education departments establish clear safety, ethical, and instructional guidelines.
