The review evaluated AI-enabled tools from four major publishers, three mid-sized curriculum providers, and three digital-first edtech firms, keeping individual vendor identities anonymous.

The report highlights an operational shift in software delivery: curriculum vendors are deploying behind-the-scenes AI updates directly to educator- and student-facing products without notifying schools or offering administrators opt-in controls. While established evaluation frameworks routinely vet educational software for student privacy and data safety, the study noted a lack of consistent standards to verify whether AI add-ons strengthen learning or preserve curriculum coherence.

Education and market analysts cited in the brief warn that unverified AI integrations create a quality-assurance gap between procurement and day-to-day instruction. Without clear, shared metrics for pedagogical efficacy, schools risk adopting tools where instructional decisions are altered by generative features that have not been tested for educational impact.
