Press Run and watch the pen draw, line by line. Press A for the next drawing and B for the one before; left alone, it moves on by itself.

Touch the letters

Press Run, then hand the board over. Let them touch the six letter pads, then press buttons A and B: the board says each one out loud.

The board speaks

Nothing to plug in — the speaker is on the board. Type a name in English letters, set the speed and pitch, and press Run.

Talk to the lights

Press Run and wait until the screen asks for the wake word. Lean in and say the first phrase on the list: the lights glow blue. Then say any other phrase on the list, clearly, in English. If the screen asks for the wake word again, say it before the next phrase.

Needs a buzzer module. Plug it in, choose its port, pick a song and press Run.

Two boards talking

Needs a second boardReady in about 20s

“Two boards, no wires, no WiFi. That’s a classroom network.”

Needs a second board and a second cable. Follow the four steps below — each board runs in its own tab.

  1. Connect the first board here and press Run. It sends a message every second.
  2. Open this page again in a new tab, and connect the second board there.
  3. In that tab, press Run the replier. Watch both boards answer each other.
  4. Press Stop in both tabs when you are done. Nothing was saved to either board.

If something does not work

  • Use the cable that came with the board. A charging-only cable looks identical and carries no data — this is the most common problem by far.
  • Only one tab can hold the board at a time. Close sheen canvas or Board Rescue first.
  • Stop always works, and leaves the screen and lights clear for the next demo.
  • No board with you? Every demo’s code is on this page to read and copy, and the piano and the webcam mirror have Try, which works on this laptop alone.
