Texas Instruments Launches TI-Rover BT for Calculator-Controlled Robotics

Texas Instruments has introduced the TI-Rover BT, a Bluetooth-enabled robotic vehicle that connects to graphing calculators to physically plot equations and explore sensor inputs.

Texas Instruments has announced the launch of the TI-Rover BT, a Bluetooth-enabled robotic vehicle designed to convert algebraic formulas and geometric concepts into physical movement. Controlled wirelessly using the TI Bluetooth Adapter, the vehicle is currently compatible with the TI-84 Evo graphing calculator, with expanded support planned for the TI-Nspire CX II and TI-Nspire CX II CAS calculators in 2027.

The system is built to turn classroom floors into physical coordinate planes, allowing learners to link code, numerical equations, and mechanical output. Key hardware features include:

  • High-precision stepper motors and an onboard pen holder with up/down mechanics to physically draw functions, such as sine waves, directly onto paper.
  • A built-in Math Drive software library equipped with templates for plotting geometric curves and investigating continuity and rate-time-distance formulas.
  • An onboard Ultrasonic Ranger paired with a programmable RGB LED to introduce input-output programming, such as changing colours as the vehicle approaches obstacles.

The release illustrates how ed-tech hardware manufacturers are increasingly anchoring robotics directly into core mathematics instruction rather than treating physical computing as a standalone discipline. By leveraging dedicated graphing hardware without internet connectivity, the approach enables schools to integrate robotics, sensor logic, and algorithm design directly into standard secondary math curricula.
