Nigerian non-profit initiative TechAble, established in 2024 by the Deafzion Foundation, has trained more than 40 young people with disabilities across Abuja, Nasarawa State, and Plateau State. The programme delivers targeted instruction in digital literacy, data and artificial intelligence fundamentals, problem-solving, and employability skills through bootcamps and community workshops.

Led by Deafzion Foundation executive director Emmanuel Izuchukwu Osita, the initiative addresses accessibility barriers in mainstream STEM programmes by integrating assistive technologies, inclusive pedagogy, and psychosocial support. TechAble has built operating partnerships with corporate and development organisations, including LEAP Africa, Dow, Windows on America, and regional state disability agencies, reporting notable retention rates among participating girls with disabilities.

The initiative highlights a critical gap across Africa's ed-tech landscape, where rapid rollout of coding and AI curricula often proceeds without assistive infrastructure or accommodations for special-needs learners. As educational departments across the continent, including South Africa, work to scale foundational coding and robotics subjects, programmes like TechAble demonstrate how tailored pedagogy and assistive tools can prevent learners with disabilities from being sidelined by digital transformation initiatives.
